The Foundry is well known for their series of Doctor Who Mods for Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas, the latter of which being easily my favourite mod of all time. Fallout Who Vegas allowed you the use of the Doctor’s TARDIS to travel throughout time and space, fighting aliens, completing quests and playing dress up with a huge amount of clothing from the Doctors and their companions. Now they return with a new mod that looks to eventually deliver that same experience to Fallout 4’s Commonwealth.

Being the very first version of this mod it goes without saying that it is nowhere near feature complete. At the moment only the very basics have been included, these being an introductory quest, the TARDIS itself, a Sonic Screwdriver, a small number of craftable items and Regeneration. There is so much more that could, and I hope will, be added in future but for now I am going to talk about the features already included and what I might hope to see in later updates.
To start off let’s talk about the biggest draw of this mod, the TARDIS. To begin the quest to access it you will need to enter the Root Cellar in Sanctuary where you will find a toolbox and a note. The toolbox contains useful items such as a Pocket Watch and the TARDIS key. From here you will be directed to the Robotics Disposal Ground where you can access the famous time machine. The first thing I love about this mod is that this TARDIS feels like your own personal time machine and this can be seen when you first lay eyes on the thing. Rather than appearing as the famous blue police box this capsule appears as just that, a plain cylindrical capsule. When you step inside you are greeted by a beautiful recreation of the classic console room with the sterile white walls and roundels.

- Time Fissures are cracks generated in the universe from the time lords reaching through from the pocket universe to the actual universe. There are several known Time Fissures and while 5 are short messages, some of these fissures allow you to reset your regeneration cycle. The fissures are found at; Yuleworld, on the platform next to the TARDIS., Motel LA, in a sideroom, before the push-able.
9 June 2016 In lieu of the next Dev Video, whilst we polish up a few things - a small teaser video tonight demonstrating just a fraction of the new and improved (Optional!) 'wibbly corridors' traversing the TARDIS interior. Adding small regeneration effects to the hands and head when tour character looks at their hands before exploding with regeneration? Posted by 4 months ago. Having just the worst day in Fallout Who Vegas. Advanced mode. Most of the time it's not too hard. And way more fun than basic mode, because of all he crazy. At the start it is a plain and unedited TARDIS, very much a blank canvas. Once you have learned how to pilot the ship you have access to two features that will allow you to really make it feel unique. The first is a working Chameleon Circuit which allows the ship to take on various different forms every time it lands such as one of the big blue Preservation Chambers and a Fridge. This is such an excellent addition as it is something that we hear a lot about but rarely actually see and it serves to make your own TARDIS blend in with its environment. It can sometimes be amusingly difficult to find again so make sure you have the homing beacon activated. I do hope that the Mod Authors add in the ability to choose an object to use as the exterior, just to make it a bit more customisable. I personally have taken a liking to the Preservation Chamber and I want my ship to look like that all the time.

The second excellent feature is the ability to decorate your control room using Fallout 4’s Settlement Building. The control room is initially bare bones and much like it appears in the classic series but it can be given some colour and character with some time and effort. I spent a good couple of hours just placing and arranging furniture until I had myself a control room that I felt fitted my Time Lord. You will definitely want to install some Settlement mods otherwise you will be stuck with using dirty and rotten post-war items and I personally prefer to decorate my TARDIS with clean furniture. On that note Homemaker is the mod I installed to achieve this and I recommend it based off some of its technological items. I also found the Institute furniture in this mod to be very in keeping with the white motif of the control room.
Piloting the TARDIS is achieved in much the same way as in the previous mods. Once you have initiated the take-off sequence you are treated with an excellent QTE mini-game. You have to run around the console pressing buttons and flicking switches as they light up, failure to do so means taking damage to the ship. This is as fun as it has always been and there is no better way to fly the ship than to be dashing about like Matt Smith in a very hands-on fashion. This can be turned off by activating the stabilisers if you just want a smooth flight for a change, this is very useful but much less eventful.
I think the only real change that I noticed was the way in which obstacles and threats were dealt with while in flight. In the previous mod you were given a selection of colour coded controls which would do things such as attack and evade. In order to avoid damage you would have to hit the correct one given the situation in time. Here however every individual threat has a different sequence of controls to press while the QTE mini-game is still going on. This makes flight extremely hectic and it is near impossible to do both of these things at the same time without suffering damage. Furthermore you have to memorise the correct sequence of buttons from the TARDIS manual as they will not be highlighted when the event takes place. I am a little unsure as to how I feel about this. On the one hand I enjoy how frantic it is to fly but at the same time it feels very inelegant and I find myself reading the TARDIS manual all the damn time. It can be quite jarring having to switch between operating the controls and reading a book when things are exploding. I think I prefer how it was handled in the previous mod and I would like to see that system make a return. Alternatively the mod author could simply have the QTE pause while you deal with the threat and that would solve my issue with this entirely. Hopefully this is addressed in a future patch.

The Regeneration ability is another aspect I am on the fence about. You cannot have a Fallout Who mod without it and I will not say that it is in any way bad. The problem is that you cannot randomise your appearance when regenerating. I don’t know myself whether this is due to Fallout 4’s new character creation system but I would not be surprised if it was. In any case you are taken to the character creation screen so that you can edit your face and body in order to choose your next incarnation. One strange thing I noticed is that for some reason, no matter how many times I hit the corresponding button, I cannot change the gender of my character. The option is there it just doesn’t work and I am not 100% sure why. Perhaps it is again due to limitations presented by the new Character Creation system but I am not sure. Despite this the Regeneration ability is still great for Roleplaying but I always liked the element of surprise when you were anticipating your next incarnation.
The Sonic Screwdriver is also included here which is a lot of fun to use. It can lock and unlock doors and terminals as well as instantly scrapping items you find in the world. It can also disarm enemies if you have enough ammo for it. Accompanying this is also a pair of Sonic Sunglasses which performs the same functions, minus the disarming people, without having to have an item equipped. I preferred the Sunglasses for their practicality and stylishness but the Screwdriver looks wonderful. I like that both of these items are very useful so they don’t feel superfluous in any way. There could be some additional features added I think but what they can do already is very good.

As for things I would like to see In future; I would very much like to see some new quests and villains to fight. Currently there is no content like this and it would be nice to face off against Daleks and Cybermen again. It would also be very cool to see some of the Doctors outfits and items based on each of their eras be included too. More than this however my main wish is for further development of the TARDIS and its features. More control rooms, exteriors and perhaps new workshop items for use in decorating said control rooms would be amazing. I love having my own unique TARDIS and I feel that this is probably the area that should be focused on the most as it is easily my personal favourite aspect. Hopefully we will see some of these features materialise in future and I will certainly be checking in on this mod later to see how it has developed.

Overall this mod is extremely fun and suitable for anybody who is a fan of the show. The TARDIS is beautiful and as fun to pilot as ever, the customisable features were an excellent addition and one that should really be expanded on. It is easy to install and will provide a few hours of enjoyment at the very least. It may be currently lacking features that were in the previous mods but that will come in time and I cannot wait to see where this goes.
